Homogeneous cooling, dehumidification and heating in one unit

Perfect crops need a perfect climate, and in hot regions that is exactly what conventional ventilation cannot deliver during peak summer. HortiCoolers are DutchGreenhouses®'s answer: a decentralised system that cools, heats and dehumidifies greenhouse air in the most homogeneous way possible, conditioning the climate directly rather than relying on air exchange. The design cools from the top, mimicking nature and relieving plants of the undesirable stress that patchy climate control creates.

At the heart of each unit is an ingeniously designed internal heat exchanger that maximises surface area to reduce air temperature effectively while collecting condensation water for reuse as irrigation water — cooling and water recovery in a single step. Powerful yet stable EC fans propel conditioned air up to sixteen metres, letting it descend naturally in a circular airflow that integrates gently into the crop. That pattern is especially valuable in greenhouses with open tables or hanging gutters, where the air can permeate the canopy freely and reach the life zone evenly.

Crucially, HortiCoolers also heat. By circulating warm or even luke-warm water through the same heat exchangers instead of cold water, the unit switches from cooling to heating — a genuine game-changer in continental climates where the weather swings sharply, and in projects that can tap low-value heat sources. The ability to flip between modes keeps the growing climate optimal regardless of outside conditions, giving one holistic solution for temperature regulation across the seasons.

The engineering is what sets the unit apart. Its oval-tube design cuts air-side pressure drop by around 35%, and that aerodynamic profile in turn yields a 15–20% increase in output. The EC motor produces negligible reactive power compared with standard AC motors and runs roughly 15% more efficiently at full load and 50% more efficiently at part load. A patented housing can be opened without a screwdriver and the fan and heat exchanger install without screws, making the HortiCooler exceptionally fast to fit and the most maintenance-friendly heat-exchanger unit on the market.
